Dyslexia, Stress and Anxiety and How to help
In this presentation, Eileen O’Regan- O’Toole, LCSW and Jo Raphael, LCSW will discuss some of the common stressors causing anxiety in children with learning disabilities, ways to recognize early warning signs for anxiety as well as tips that parents and educators can share with students to help them manage these stressors.

Eileen O’Regan-O’Toole holds a master’s degree in social work from The University of Georgia and has over 30 years of clinical experience in the metro Atlanta area. She has a supportive, yet straightforward approach to psychotherapy. She has worked many years with families adjusting to difficult life circumstances, helping families to find successful coping skills for dealing with these difficulties. Eileen became interested in the impact of Dyslexia on families when her first grandchild was diagnosed with Dyslexia and had significant difficulties in getting services needed for her to succeed in the academic environment.

Jo Raphael is a seasoned Clinical Social Worker, who works with children, adolescents, families, and couples providing treatment, consultation, training and supervision. In her practice she has focused on working with children with developmental and learning challenges and their families. She has served on the national faculty of the DIR® (Developmental, Individual Difference, Relationship-based) Institute and, in addition, served as a mentor and coach to clinicians seeking certification in the DIR® method and the PLAY Project. She has worked as a school counselor with Pre-K through 8th-grade students and their families using a developmental approach. Over the years Jo has added to her professional toolbox utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Positive Psychology, and meditation. She seeks to treat the whole person and designs an individualized treatment approach. Jo is currently working at Attento Counseling as a psychotherapist where the majority of her caseload is experiencing anxiety and depression.
