Dyslexia and Reading Difficulties with Dr. J. Lindstrom hosted by The Deal Center

Early childhood educators play an essential role in identifying early signs of reading difficulties, including dyslexia. This session will provide an overview of the early signs, symptoms, and causes of dyslexia. Attendees will also learn about effective, evidence-based early literacy instruction and interventions, especially for at-risk students and those with dyslexia. Implications of S.B. 48 for Georgia’s teachers and administrators will also be addressed, with specific focus on screening and identification of dyslexia in the schools. The session will conclude with recommendations for practice.

Feature Presenter: Jennifer Lindstrom, Ph.D.

Jennifer Lindstrom, Ph.D., serves on the board of the Georgia Branch of the International Dyslexia Association. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Special Education at the University of Georgia. She is also Co-Director of the Graduate Certificate in Dyslexia/Dyslexia Endorsement program. Her teaching and research focus on causes and treatment of dyslexia and other learning disabilities, issues surrounding the provision of accommodations to individuals with dyslexia and other learning disabilities, early literacy with a focus on teacher training and the use of research-based methodologies for improving student performance, and the relationships between cognitive and linguistic abilities and poor reading and writing development.
