Learning to Read: The Great Debate – Restaged in Math Class

Christopher_WoodinChristopher Woodin, Ed.M., is a specialist in the fields of mathematics and learning disabilities. A graduate of Middlebury College and Harvard Graduate School of Education, he has taught extensively at Landmark School in Massachusetts. At Landmark School, Elementary-Middle School Campus, he holds the Ammerman Chair of Mathematics. He is the author of Multiplication and Division Facts for the Part-to-Whole Learner (2013), in addition to several journal articles. He served on the Massachusetts Department of Education’s Mathematics 2011 Curriculum Framework Panel and teaches graduate-level education courses. Christopher Woodin was the 1997 Massachusetts Learning Disabilities Association (LDA) Samuel Kirk Educator of the Year. He has presented at numerous international LDA and International Dyslexia Association (IDA) conferences and led math workshops to audiences across the country.

The Elephant in the Room: Grappling with Dyslexia

Timothy Odegard, Ph.D., is a professor of psychology and holds the Katherine Davis Murfree Chair of Excellence in Dyslexic Studies at Middle Tennessee State University, leading the efforts of the Tennessee Center for the Study and Treatment of Dyslexia. As a developmental cognitive psychologist, his research focuses on memory and language. His research in reading strives to identify factors that predict the response of individuals with dyslexia and related specific reading disabilities to intensive interventions and leverage this informationto improve intervention efforts.
