Marietta City Schools LogoTuesday, Jan. 17, from 12-12:30 p.m., Dr. Rivera and Dr. Jennifer Hernandez, Executive Director of the Office of Academic Achievement, will give an overview of how MCS supports students with characteristics of dyslexia, including the district’s participation in the Georgia Department of Education’s pilot dyslexia program. The conversation will also discuss how staff are trained in dyslexia resources and science of reading.

“Learning to read and write is one of life’s most fundamental achievements. A student’s success in literacy development paves the way for future success,” said Superintendent Dr. Grant Rivera, “Marietta is committed to identifying students that need extra support as early as possible so we can provide additional instruction and focused intervention.”

MCS is one of seven school districts in Georgia currently in the pilot program designed to help identify and support students with dyslexia. The pilot program is part of the upcoming implementation of Senate Bill 48, which will require all Georgia elementary schools to screen every kindergartener for dyslexia.

This “Community Conversations” event will be virtual to make it convenient for people to join wherever they are. The virtual town hall will also be recorded so people who can’t make it can still access this valuable information.

The February “Community Conversations” will offer an overview of Marietta Athletics, including opportunities for students in K-12, summer camps, try-out information, and upcoming facility improvements.
